Pair of seniors to lead Terps water polo next season

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Blaise Stanicic and Laurel Laidlaw were voted captains for the 2008-09 season by their teammates, head Maryland water polo coach Carl Salyer announced Wednesday.

Stanicic and Laidlaw will be seniors in the fall.

"We look forward to Blaise's future contributions to the enhancement of the physical and mental toughness of those around her," Salyer said. "Blaise is a true leader through word and action.

"And we'll look forward to adding Laurel, and her lively team spirit, to the captain position. Although Laurel was sidelined for the end of the 2008 season due to illness, she was an outstanding, supportive leader from the deck."

Stanicic, who was second on the team in points (83) this season, and Allie Houseal, one of two outgoing seniors, served as this year's captains.
